========

Hello, and welcome to this small corner of the world (as expressed up there). I'm not sure how you came to be here, but hopefully you wanted to be here (I'm not in the habit of forcing people to stay around)- if not, feel free to bypass this. I guess I've more-or-less assumed this is the page where I ramble on about myself and this place due to a lack of anywhere else to do so (and people willing to listen, I imagine), so it might be a bit lengthy. If you want a summary, I'm an anime/manga fan who likes LiveJournal for the content and the fans. I mainly like shonen series (including Prince of Tennis and Gintama), and tend to like BL pairings. I have an interest in writing, drawing, and learning Japanese, although I don't consider myself to have gotten very far with any of them. Finally, I find it pretty hard to express myself. .___.; That's probably it for basics. If you want to read the full thing, then by all means please continue.

Self

I won't be posting about myself much, but just for the sake of background: I am a racially-Asian, English-speaking and British-raised student, who lives in Hong Kong and can't speak a word of Cantonese to show for it. This is rather unfortunate, considering my appearance- the fact that I'm trying to learn Japanese instead of Mandarin might also seem a bit odd. I always forget my age- considering it changes every year, I'm not too bothered about it. I have Asperger's Syndrome and OCD: the former doesn't bother me at all, the latter is an utter pain.

I write and I draw, but I lack confidence in both- as such, I doubt anything will appear here. Despite this low esteem, however, I will try- to quote a certain author- not to sound like 'a self-indulgent sack of spider puke'.

I am not good at interacting with people, and I deeply dislike 'social life'. I also dislike fads and cliques in general, going out, 1337-speak, large gatherings of people, and noise. This probably makes me utterly disagreeable to society. This suits me just fine. I am very good at procrastinating, and you should probably know that I have a rather odd sense of humour, am very easily amused (by things like Google translator/Babelfish and all that it comes up with), and tend to think too much as as whole. This also suits me just fine.

I try to be polite when I can, so I apologise if I offend anyone- my opinion is my opinion, although I try to acknowledge others' whilst holding it. I like food, but I'm not that good at cooking, photography, or making it look nice, so I'm afraid that I probably won't post anything about that.

There will probably be gaps in my posting, as I'm away studying for fixed periods of time at boarding school, where LiveJournal is blocked. As such, I tend not to be around outside school holidays, unless I'm out for a weekend or there's a glitch in the system and LiveJournal is unblocked for a day (which can happen).I have hopefully not dropped off the face of the planet, as that would deeply alarm me. When I do post, however, most posts will be on the topic of fandom (although there might be the occasional post complaining about the weather or something like that), as that should really be considered part and parcel with me.

And that's pretty much all you need to know about me.

'Apathy?'

It might be a misconception that my username is based on the emotion 'apathy' (i.e. a state of uncaring). This isn't the case, much as I'm not good at expressing emotion- I don't consider myself at all apathetic. 'Apathy' is the name of one of my characters (who, ironically, isn't that apathetic either), and I have adapted his name for my use on the Internet as a whole. I can only hope he doesn't mind. Time to move onto the main point of this place, I think...

Interests/Fandom

As a first note (of forewarning, perhaps): my opinion is my opinion, and I tend to stick to it as such- there is no offence intended in it. You are entitled to dislike mine, and I am entitled to have mine. I find disagreements uncomfortable, but ultimately my opinion is my opinion. If there are any disagreements, please put them across in a civil fashion. And that is I have to say on the matter, I believe.

I am interested in literature/art and the like, and am also interested in psychology: I mostly enjoy fantasy/action adventure novels, as a general rule (I also like 'choose your own adventure' books). If there's a period of history I find interesting and it's well written, I'm not adverse to reading that, either; I also particularly enjoy the Sherlock Holmes series. However, as a general rule, my mind mostly consists of various anime/manga fandom that I'm attached to- as I might have said, that is what this journal will mostly be about.

My brain in terms of fandom/related probably looks as such:

Prince of Tennis: 22.5%
Gintama: 22.5%
Yuugiou (DM/GX): 20%
Other (out of which the Gyakuten Saiban, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon (game) series, and Tales of... are prominent): 20%
Original: 15%

It's difficult to squash my main focus in fandom into categories, so this is probably a somewhat vague attempt to do so, albeit a (hopefully) fair one. I do like other fandoms, though, which I don't necessarily participate in: there is a full listing somewhere down at the bottom. I don't seem to stick to a particular 'category' of manga (although I think that the categories are more who it is aimed at more than who reads it), although as a general rule I seem to more like shonen/seinen (mature in terms of 'not afraid to address mature issues', not 'hentai'), with particular shojo on the side.

I don't participate in fandom in the sense that I really post anything anywhere: as I've mentioned, I feel too underconfident to do so. However, there are some that I focus on more than others, and I do write and draw. If there is a translation provided along with scans from a manga/doujin, I can try to scanlate it; if there is kanji provided on a subject and I'm curious as to what it means, I will attempt to translate it. I do not believe myself particularly proficient at translating, so any corrections are always appreciated, although I will ask that any corrections are put across gently and constructively (that is, tell me what's wrong and why in a genial fashion as opposed to simply saying 'this is all wrong' or 'this sucks').

I like both crack and serious things (isn't meant to require too much thought, can think deeply about it), and I am one of those people who likes sweet fluffy stuff and angst. I appreciate well-written work, deep or lighthearted, although I tend to keep my own views on characters/situations even then. I also find AUs (alternate universes) and WIs (what-ifs) interesting as well. I seem to have accumulated a fair amount of fanon, which I will most likely base things on. I suppose that that's just the way things are.

Thankfully, I live in a place where I can get at least some manga from bookstores; as such, I do possess things such as the PoT fanbooks (10.5, 20.5, 30.5, 40.5) and the YGO fanbook (Gospel of Truth). If any scans are wanted, please inform me: the next time my scanner is available to me (which unfortunately might be a while) and isn't being temperamental, I will see what I can do about it. My scanning skills are not the best, so be warned. I'm unable to purchase doujin off the shelves where I live, but I do have three doujin which I'm very fond of: two PoT- YES NO YES, by Kaneshiki Swiss of Satoumizu (SanaYu) and Your Memories, by ramirez (KiteChinen)- and one Gintama- Aibetsuriku, by Ichika Kawaraya (GinKatsu). I suppose I'm always looking to acquire more, if possible, so I tend to browse around doujin communities and the like. As aforementioned, if there is a scan and a translation (and I'm able to), then I'm happy to attempt a scanlation.

Fandom likes in general

Just favourite particular parts of particular fandoms, I suppose.

PoT

  • Rikkai in general. Yes, I am somewhat biased when it comes to this. I am also one of those people who takes the nice, fluffy view of them as opposed to the more vicious, ruthless view of them. ... Yes. Overall, I find them the most interesting team with the most interesting background, and they have the distinctness of being the only team out of which I like all the members. I probably can't pick a favourite out of the Rikkai regulars, but if I had to say, it would probably be Sanada, Yukimura, Kirihara, Niou, or Yagyuu. You see, I can't even pick a favourite out of them...

  • Higa. Recently (possibly because of the Myus), I've grown to like Higa quite a bit, and although it's not quite on the same level as Rikkai (erm... yes), I'm pretty fond of them. And, yes: possibly-contradictory obligatory nicer view... yes.

  • Inui and Kaidoh. I like Inui and his relationship with Kaidoh, and his relationship with Yanagi, his megane, his strange juices, and his demeanour and personality in general. I like Kaidoh's hissing and bandanas and antisocial nature. I like the river, and the green towel. ... Again, yes. (I don't really need to say any more, I think).

  • Hiyoshi. Gekokujou. And mushroom. And his relationship with Kirihara (enoki and wakame). For some reason, I find it amusing and interesting that they've met each other before...
  • The Myus. Rikkaimyu in particular (naturally)- I don't feel I need to elaborate more on this. And I like the Myu actors too. They're funny.

  • Gintama

  • The 'Joui Four'. Their shared background is interesting, and I could probably be said to like all four of them at a generally high degree. The background that Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi share is particularly interesting to me, especially taking 'Shouyou-sensei' into account...

  • The Yorozuya. I like all of its (three) members, pretty much, and like the family dynamic they seem to have. Gintoki is also just funny (as is the series).

  • Katsura in general. Really, it feels as though there are several sides to him, so it's difficult to say exactly what one likes about him- the fact that he's the dedicated leader of the Joui on the one hand, or the fact that he has a giant white duck (named Elizabeth) which he dotes on, and an apparently general liking for 'cute' things on the other? I could probably just say that I like him as a character, for both amusement and interest reasons.

  • The Kiheitai. Or, to be particular, Takasugi and Bansai. Again, I find them interesting- particularly Takasugi, whose personality and motives are especially so. I'm interested in seeing what background Bansai has for his motivecs, however.

  • Itou. Yes, the Itou who only appeared for an arc (Itou/Shinsengumi discord arc). I'm admittedly quite fond of him. Poor neglected kamo. *pats*

  • Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban

  • Phoenix and Edgeworth as separates, and as a whole. Although, I do find Hobo Phoenix rather disturbing... and I do wonder where Edgeworth's gone. I am one of the number who wonders about that, yes...

  • Odoroki and co. I do like Phoenix and co., perhaps more so- however, as a separate part of the same series, I am fond of Odoroki and his 'passionate heart burning RED.'

  • Zelda series

  • The Resistance (Twilight Princess). Especially Shad and Ashei, I must admit, but I really do like the group in general and the concept behind them. I wish you got to see them more, though.

  • Link. Whichever one it happens to be, although Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess Link might have more personality (well, as much as Link can have one). Debatable, I suppose.

  • Linebeck (Phantom Hourglass). A good character, I felt, and one that amused me greatly. I hope he turns up again, if there's ever another in the Wind Waker-Phantom Hourglass universe... and I hope he doesn't think his journey with Link was just a dream.

  • Dragon Ball Z

  • Goku. He can be a happy hero and a rounded character at the same time, and his personality considering the amount of things that happen to his world is nothing short of admirable.

  • Vegeta. Good character growth, and I like his relationship with Bulma and Trunks. His relationship with Mirai Trunks is a bit more... interesting, but I like that too.

  • Bulma. A strong female character, in a predominantly male character-inhabited series that a lot could probably pigeonhole as just being about fighting and things blowing up. Well, there's a lot of that, but I don't believe that to be the point of the matter.

  • Mirai Trunks. Aside from his backstory and the empathy that comes with it, I actually find him quite amusing. ... But, that probably isn't the point either.

  • Yuugiou DM

  • Pretty much Seto, Atemu (Dark Yugi), and Joey/Jounouchi. They're all interesting in their own ways, I think, and I like the characters.

  • Yuugiou GX

  • Who I call the 'main-tachi'- namely, Judai, Manjoume, Asuka, Shou, Kenzan, and Edo (with Judai, Manjoume, and Asuka being particulars). I also like Fubuki and Kaiser. Again, I pretty much like them for the same reasons as Seto, Atemu, and Jounouchi: I feel that they're all interesting in their own ways, and I like the characters.

  • The Saious (Takuma and Mizuchi) from the second season. I liked them a lot, although Saiou's facial contortions when possessed by the Light force were disturbingly Higurashi-like at times.

  • North School. Yes, they were the random school Manjoume ran into all the way back in episode 24. ... ... ... Yes.

  • The Manjoume brothers (Chousaku and Shouji). I feel there's a lot more to them than meets the eye, but that might just be my fanon speaking. Ah well.

  • The Monarchs. They were Mizuchi's underlings, of a sort, back in the Domino-visit part of the second season (around episode 77). Again, I just took a liking to them... rather like I just took a liking to North School.

  • Pokemon (games)

As I don't really watch the anime much...

  • The 'hero' in Colosseum/XD (Wes/Seth and Michael/Ryuuto). What one can discern of their personalities and backgrounds, that is.

  • Ein and Nascour (Colosseum). ... I just like them? (And Nascour's outfit reminds me of Dark Riku's in Chain of Memories. Hmm).

  • Eldes and Ardos (XD). See above.

I also like most of Pokemon Special (the manga).

    Games

I most commonly like text-based or action-adventure fantasy games- preferably role-playing ones. Zelda, Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk, the Pokemon series, and Breath of Fire good examples of the sorts of games I like. I also like the Tales series a lot (Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia in particular). Surprisingly, I find that I don't like Final Fantasy a whole lot. Ah well?

If platforms aren't too hard, I quite enjoy them as well (Sonic and Mario). I currently have an enmity with a certain game (belonging to a friend of mine) called Vexx (for good reason- very vexing), one of the hardest platforms I've come across (which isn't saying much, but still)- I will probably rejoice a lot when I finally get past the last battle of that.

I also like Harvest Moon, although I really have no idea what category that falls into. Simulation? Maybe... And I've never played Gakuensai no Oujisama, Form the Strongest Team (et al), but I rather wish that I was able to in order to see the interactions between the characters and the like. I think that they'd be interesting.

Finally, I also have Driving Smash: side King (DS). I'm not usually the best at sports games, but you don't really have to play the game yourself (thankfully): you just have to train your team members and help them during matches. I don't understand most of what they're saying, but it's fun to watch and play (the interactions and the mascot co-ordination in particular)- and I think it's the only time I'll be able to pat Sanada on the head and not get Sana-slapped into oblivion. I take advantage of that.

And, that's really it, I suppose?

    Pairings

Generally, this will most likely be more pairings I like (support/feel make sense). I will probably only list the more prominent ones out of those that I like (and the ones I like I'm rather crazy about, so to speak, so I daresay it's obvious whenever the topic comes up: I tend to stick very closely to my OTPs/TTPs/however many pairings in a series I have, and not cross them over or the like). I do write and read pairing fics (usually centered around those)- however, I will not read smut/lemon/lime/NC17/R (and the like), as a general rule (namely, unless I can easily skip over those particular parts), and I tend not to be too into het pairings. Again, I suppose that's the way things are.

    Main pairings bolded:

    PoT

Sanada/Yukimura (which I refer to as 'SanaYu')
    Niou/Yagyuu (which I refer to as '28')
    Kite/Chinen(/Kite?)
Inui/Kaidoh (which I refer to as 'InuKai')

(For the sake of crack, I quite like Yanagi/Kirihara, and Kirihara/Hiyoshi is somewhere in between).

    Gintama

    Gintoki/Katsura (which I refer to as 'GinKatsu'/'GinKatsura')
Bansai/Takasugi (which I refer to as 'BanTaka')

(The fact that I see the Yorozuya as a bit of a family unit probably prevents me from actually supporting any pairings involving the Yorozuya together/being that involved in them, it seems).

    Hetalia

    Alfred/Arthur

    PW

    Kyouya/Odoroki

(I don't mind Phoenix/Edgeworth, but don't necessarily ship it- I generally prefer them as being close friends)

    Other

Although these (mostly) aren't my 'main fandoms', so to speak, I suppose one could say that they're still pairings I like or take notice of (if not 'support', in the sense of lurking and reading/looking at fanart).

    (Solid) Snake/Otacon (MGS)
    Zima/Dita (Chobits)
    Vegeta/Bulma (DBZ)
    Manjoume/Asuka (YGO: GX)
    Keiichi/Rena (Higurashi)
    George/Shannon (Umineko)
    Tsuzuki/Hisoka (Yami no Matsuei)
Guilford/Cornelia(/Guilford?) (Code Geass... one of the only things I take notice of in this series, yes)
    Flynn/Yuri (Tales of Vesperia)
Kazuki/Wataru (Only the Ring Finger Knows)
    Rid/Keel (Tales of Eternia)
    Mamoru/Usagi (Sailor Moon)
    Red/Green (Pokemon Special)
    Mikuri/Daigo (Pokemon Special)

    Links

Probably nothing too interesting here: just links I like, links I think might be useful, et al.

    Translating (Japanese)

    WWWJDIC
Kanji --> Romaji converter- not always the most accurate, but very helpful
Nihongo o Narau- a good starting point
Nihongo Resources- also useful in general

    Scanlating

Idiot's guide to scanlating- useful if you're an amateur (like me)

    Pictures

Just about the pictures on this page:

  • Kirihara and Hiyoshi (Prince of Tennis) from Love Prince 13.

  • Niou and Yagyuu (Prince of Tennis) by Negahyst.

  • Sanada and Yukimura (Prince of Tennis) by Satoumizu.

  • And, that's really it. If you're still here, well done for sitting through it (and yes, it is a habit of mine to go on for far too long): I guess you can blame there being an opportunity to go on and on about my interests without someone else having to listen to me (and actually having somewhere to put such a rant) for its length. Thank you for your time- I hope it was informative in some way.
